Tropical Fruit Gazpacho

Tropical Fruit Gazpacho - A refreshing Summer soup

Here, in the midst of Summer, we are finally back to regular posting. Quite honestly, we missed all of you, as well as the process of creating a post, birthing it and releasing it out into the world. Back in June, our initial plan was to take a couple of weeks off  from our recipe development projects, especially the creation of so many yeast-based recipes. Between finalizing recipes for our upcoming book and our participation in the wonderful TWD group, we felt a little overwhelmed.

Lavender Lemonade

Lavender Lemonade - A refreshing and delicious Summer drink

For those of you expecting a new TWD recipe today (semolina bread), we chose to forgo today’s recipe, due mostly to excessive heat, making the idea of turning on the oven an unappealing one to say the least. However, we may redo it at a later time if the weather cools down. Also, unlike some of our previous experiments, semolina bread is much more difficult to convert to gluten free. No gluten free substitute flour will taste exactly like semolina, or comes even close. Since the general TWD recipe line up calls for two participations per month, and July happens to have three this year, we felt it would be okay to sit one out. July Fourth Party Menu

Today is the 235th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence! Even though the reason for the celebration is often forgotten in the hectic business of family gatherings and festivities, it is an event definitely worth remembering.

HAPPY JULY FOURTH!!

Here are a few quick menu ideas, to help you plan your party.  Hope you are blessed with lots of soft green grass to lay out your picnic blanket, and plenty of trees for shade. Here the monsoon season has actually begun, or so we hope, bringing us the first rainfall yesterday since last November! Yippee!! And, no, in case you were wondering, getting no rain for this long is not normal, even considering that we live in the high desert.  If you also find yourself living  in a state that is extremely dry, please forego the at home fireworks displays. There are beautiful displays in almost all towns across the country, and it would be a tragedy if another wildfire were to begin. Smoke is still hanging very thickly in the air from several wild fires burning in the surrounding areas, namely Los Alamos and Santa Fe.

If you are hosting  a July Fourth celebration, below are links to a selection of our most popular summertime recipes.

JULY FOURTH MENU:

Sparkling Cranberry Juice with Green Tea

Fillet of Sole with Green Salad and Rainbow German Potato Salad

Happy July Fourth. Always feel free to leave your comments, we love hearing from you! Have fun and enjoy the day.
